On Wednesday, September 28, the Warriors handily defeated the Sagemont Lions by a score of 20-18, clinching a spot in the league playoffs. The charge was once again led by quarterback Avi Stein, who threw two touchdowns to Moshe Goldring and another to Jacob Stein.
“They were rough and tough,” said Mendy Benhamou, who finished with over 100 yards and a key interception.
The next day, the flag football squad came home to face the mighty Posnack Rams, who narrowly beat the Warriors by a margin of 8 points, just one score. While the fledgling team lost, they put up a good and promising show for the Hebrew Academy students and faculty in attendance. The defeat means that the first playoff game will be played at Posnack instead of Flamingo Park. Hopes are high for next Thursday’s semifinal match.
Even with the loss, coach Rob Erickson’s team will finish the season with a whopping 5 wins and only 2 losses in the program’s inaugural year. Seniors Shmuel Kahn, Sruly Duchman, Mendy Benhamou, Avi Stein, and Daniel Yerushalmi all hope to place their own banner in the HA gym.
The next flag football game will be Thursday, October 6 against the Posnack Rams.
