Movie Review: It Ends With Us

It Ends With Us,” a movie based on the best-selling novel by Colleen Hoover, hit theaters on August 9th. It was a box office success, achieving an impressive $24 million on its opening day.

The movie captures the story of Lily Bloom, played by actress Blake Lively, as she navigates her feelings about love and relationships. Lily had a difficult childhood, watching her mother endure abuse by her father. After moving to Boston to chase her dreams, she opens her flower shop. Soon, she meets Ryle Kincaid, a charming neurosurgeon played by actor Justin Balndoni, and they fall in love. As their relationship progresses, Lily is confronted with Ryle's abusive side and is forced to confront her past, including her childhood experiences with her abusive father, as well as her first love, Atlas Corrigan. The movie explores themes of love, domestic violence, and the challenges of breaking generational cycles. Lily exemplifies women’s empowerment and the importance of making difficult choices for a better future.

Personally, as a big fan of the book since reading it in 2021, I eagerly anticipated watching the movie. Even though I knew the plot and the ending, I found myself on the edge of my seat while watching it on the big screen. I thought the adaptation from book to film was seamless and impressive. I also loved that the movie included a Taylor Swift song because I am a big fan of hers. Whether you have read the book or not, the message is a powerful one and the movie is beautifully crafted.

The lovely set and soundtrack of the movie exceeded my expectations. Even for audience members who hadn’t read the book, the film offered an intense emotional journey with a heartbreaking yet powerful ending. Whether audience members cried, laughed, smiled, or cried some more, the movie did not disappoint!
