This week, the Warrior Word sat down and interviewed Rabbi Shagalov, who is a new Rabbi at Hebrew Academy. Get to know him as he shares his passion for teaching Torah and connection with his students.
Adina Shagalov: Hi, what's your name?
Rabbi Shagalov: My name is Sholom Menachem Mendel Shagalov.
Adela Kopfstein: What was your profession prior to teaching at Hebrew Academy?
RS: Everything in Judaica. I mainly used to work in sales and Kedusha World.
AS: Did you enjoy your past profession?
RS: Immensely; it helped me with my knowledge of teaching.
AK: What brought you to teach at Hebrew Academy?
RS: It was my students who brought me here. I had studied for years with many different boys of all ages. Administration called me and stated how the boys’ teachers left and asked if I would come in to teach. Of course, I will take any opportunity to learn Torah with these kids, and after some discussion, I decided to agree. As of now, I teach two periods.
AS: What's your favorite thing about teaching in Hebrew Academy?
RS: The mentorship within all the different classes, as well with other students that I don't necessarily learn Torah with.
AK: Where were you born?
RS: Brooklyn, New York.
AS: How are you liking Miami?
RS: There are three reasons I love it here in Miami. Firstly, because my wife is very pleased here and loves where we live. Secondly, I get to be closer with my children and my grandchildren. Lastly, I am able to teach Torah at the level I would love to teach.
AK: What inclined you to move to Miami?
RS: Mr. Shagalov, Adina’s father.
AS: What specific subjects do you teach?
RS: I teach Torah—specifically Gemara, Mach, Kabulla and the Basic foundations. It's important that I am able to implement the Torah studies that we’re teaching in daily life and in business, most importantly.
