Humans of RASG: Lizzy Ebner

Warrior Word Staff

Humans of RASG, similar to Humans of New York, is a verbal snapshot of the people who make up our high school. Each human is asked to speak about themselves at length, and their monologue is recorded and transcribed verbatim. In order to keep it real, nothing is omitted. This week, the Warrior Word interviewed its Editor-in-Chief, Lizzy Ebner (12th). Get to know Lizzy as she discusses her various hobbies, extracurriculars, and her experience at Hebrew Academy.

“Hi, my name is Lizzy Ebner and I am a 17 year-old Ashkenazi Jew. I am a senior at Hebrew Academy, which I've attended since I was three years old. I am the youngest of three and my brother and sister, along with my cousins, have attended Hebrew Academy. In school, I am the Editor-in-Chief of the school newspaper, the Warrior Word, as well as the senior yearbook. Additionally, I am a president of the school's AIPAC club. I enjoy playing school sports, as I’ve been on the Varsity Girls’ basketball and football teams since freshman year. This year, I decided to try out a new sport and joined the Varsity Girls’ Volleyball Team, as well. Outside of school, I love spending time with my family and friends. My hobbies include running or walking on the boardwalk, as well as going to the beach. I also like discovering new restaurants and coffee places. My entire maternal extended family lives in Miami Beach which I am extremely grateful for, as I get to spend time with them on Shabbos and the chagim. I've loved every year of Hebrew Academy, but my favorite years have been high school. I experienced two years in the old building and two years in the new one which is really interesting to compare and contrast. If I could give any advice to the underclassman, it would be to prioritize time management. It’s important to find balance between schoolwork, extracurricular activities, and social life. I’ve been able to manage my time by taking things day-by-day, but having an idea of how I would like to split my day up in terms of time and getting things done. For example, If I have basketball practice from five to six-thirty in the evening, then I know to use my time after to finish homework or study for a test. If I know about upcoming homework or tests, I like to work in advance in order to have time for other activities. Next year, I’ll be studying in Israel at Aish for seminary, and I have not yet decided where I’ll be attending college. I’m sad to graduate, but I’m also excited for what the future has in store.”
