In the days leading up to Purim, the Hebrew Academy high school’s student council put in tremendous amounts of work in order to arrange a fun and enjoyable spirit week to get all of the students into the spirit of Purim. Throughout six days, there were six different themes, each unique in their own ways, that brought out the creativity of the students through their fun outfits.
Spirit week began Thursday, the week before Purim, with a theme that enabled students to bond with their peers. The theme was twin day, where students got to match with each other in creative ways.
On the Friday before Purim, the second day of spirit week, the theme was Jersey day. Students showed up in jerseys from all different sports and events.
Students returned from their weekend all ready for the third day of spirit week, superhero/supervillains day. Many students showed up to school dressed as Batman, in order to honor the Bibas children, Ariel and Kfir.
“It felt very meaningful to have everyone dressed up to honor Kfir and Ariel; it was a great initiative to this year's spirit week” shared Melina Rosencovich” (10th).
The theme on Tuesday was Israel day. Students had the chance to dress up and demonstrate their loyalty to the country. Many students showed up in IDF themed outfits while others dressed in blue and white, representing the Israeli flag.
On Wednesday, rather than just a day of dressing up, the school held an exciting Purim carnival! Students showed up in different costumes to demonstrate their Purim spirit. Throughout the day, students had the privilege of participating in various activities.
Every grade participated in Hamantaschen making. Additionally, all of the students went to the gymnasium to explore the carnival, which included an inflatable obstacle course, inflatable slides, mini golf, and more. The day ended with all of the students gathered together in the elementary cafeteria to watch the annual Purim spiel that the seniors put together.

Abie Zohar (10th) expressed his enjoyment, saying, “This year's carnival was so fun with many more activities in store, like the Motorized stuffed animals that everyone enjoyed.”
Thursday before Purim was the last day of spirit week, as it was Taanit Esther as well. The relaxing theme of Thursday was PJ day, allowing students to wear comfortable clothes and slippers while they were fasting.
Overall, the students enjoyed their spirit week, being able to dress up and enjoy fun activities. The student council and Morah Twito are to thank for this fun-filled week with great Ruach!
